I was sat in the garden, just me, on my own,

and thoughts that came into my head

of seeds that I’d planted watered and fed

should show signs now of making a spread,

I’ve pulled out the weeds from each flowerbed,

and sprinkled on fish blood and bone,

I’ve raked and hoed round all that Ive sown,

there’s no sign of any display,

I’ve talked to each plant

“oh please little flower

let this be the hour

you will open and bloom just for me,

The rose the pansy, the little sweet pea

I would be delighted and so full of glee”

I wont be so lucky, for whats that I see?

A snail and a slug melee,

I see silver trails

Its them flaming snails

and slugs the size of the cat,

why can’t they eat weed

when they’re wanting to feed

to eat my plants there’s no need

one winked at me the cheeky brat

and his smirk was ever so wide,

he’s pushing his luck

if Ihad a duck

well he’d be eaten alive,

they think its alright to raid in the night

and feast by the light of the moon.

the monsters will go

with the help of my toe,

over the fence and real soon,

I was told tubs of beer

would keep it all clear,

and that’s not working I fear

Because they stagger about

they fight and they shout

like hooligans in full  gear,

then there is her next door

who’s a bit of a bore,

with what she has sown

and what she has grown

all that will come up next year.

well there will be nothing to match

my little patch

when I transplant these beast for sure

when over they go

to my friend Flo

and see if she brags next year.

While in the local library I picked up a leaflet that said win £1000 by writing a poem, must only be 20 lines, What I could do with £1000.
So I sent off three poems.
Then received a letter from United press with what they said was very good news,It said even though you didnt win through to the National Poetry Antholgy 2009. with my permission they still wanted to print my poem in their new book,called the guiding light. which can be ordered at all good book shops, normal price £17.70 please add £3.81 for p&p postage free if you order more than one copy,
No mention of who won
So they collect poems from people for nothing not even a free copy of the guiding light,
I think they have cheek,

the Gemini Group were invited to the Lady Mayor’s parlour today , Frank Reid the Mayor’s right hand man talked about the history of Salford,and told us of the why and where of the different pieces of regalia, we had a lovely buffet ,took photo’s great afternoon very interesting,

march 27th cold a bit windy but a nice day out for Chalk history group to Jodrell Bank,then on to a farm for a lovely lunch,every body enjoyed the day

a great night of music and dance, at St Sebastians Douglas Green .Salford.Mike Skeffington DJ with his wonderful selection of music, every one enjoyed themselves,the pie and peas was great the bar staff a friendly crew, look forward to next month for another lovely evening

Saturday Feb 14, a new gallery opened with Family photos of salford folk,what memories were stired up. the Street maps had people talking, remembering who lived where,new friendships were built that afternoon, Thanks to all who got it all together, well done

Betty Yardley was 90 on the 4th Feb 09, a lovely lady who served in the Wrens during the war years, so happy birthday Betty,

a good friend to many many people, and many people were invited to her party on Sat 7th, every one enjoyed themselves  the dancing and buffet  were great,thanks for the invite,Betty, already looking forward to next year’s party
